Dexter Allen

Grammy® Award Winner Dexter Allen born in Crystal Springs, MS. the son of musical pastors, was raised on a farm and grew up understanding that life can still be wholesome with necessities. Dexter began playing the bass guitar at the age of 12 with a local gospel group with his father and uncle, traveling around the central Mississippi area. His sweet blend of Blues, R & B, Soul and funk opened the door in 1995 to team up with Airtight Records, a local independent label. There he was able to share his creative musical talents. He later caught the eye of living blues legend Bobby Rush who made him the lead guitarist in his worldwide touring band for several years. Dexter stepped out on his own as a solo artist in 2007 and his unique style landed him a Music Award in 2008, the same year he released his first album “Bluezin My Way” that he self-produced and recorded and another Music Award in 2009 as Entertainer of The Year. Dexter released a few other albums after this great start in his career and continued to receive honors like a State House Resolution in 2014 for his accomplishments to the music industry. In 2013 another opportunity presented itself and Dexter was cast in the James Brown movie “Get On UP” where he played one of Mr. Brown’s musicians…

Over the years Dexter has developed a passionate, driving guitar style in the vein of Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton and George Benson. Dexter teamed up with Deep Rush Records, the label of icon and three-time Grammy® Award Winner Bobby Rush and released two albums on the Deep Rush Label titled “Bluez of My Soul” and “Trilogy of My Bluez”, which continues to sell worldwide and delight fans all across the globe. Dexter did his first live album at the world renown Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale, MS that’s co-owned by Academy Award Winning actor Morgan Freeman, who was in attendance, and it was a great success, followed by a self-produced studio album titled “Keep Moving On” both projects made the list for Grammy Consideration. Dexter has his very own recording studio nestled at his home in Central Mississippi where he recorded with interrelating parts on Bobby Rush’s 2024 album “All My Love For You” where Bobby and Dexter won blues album of the year at the 2024 Grammy® Awards, both receiving the prestigious gramophone.
